What You Need to Know for a Data Science Internship

In this video I talk through what you need to know before starting a data science internship. I also give you some tips on how to prepare for these internships as a whole.

First, I recommend just applying. A bias towards action helps you to figure out the areas that you need to work on.

I also think you should have at least a foundation in programming either using python or R. You also should have taken at least an intro to stats course.

If you want to put your best foot forward, you should be familiar with the 3 main types of data science algorithms: Regression, Classification, and Clustering.

I also recommend that you do some projects to solidify these skills. These are some beginner projects that I recommend doing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8igH8qZafpo

Finally, it isn’t the end of the world to not get a data science or machine learning internship. You have plenty of options that can still look good on your resume.

UX Design portfolio tips and how to prepare for internship interviews (Interview with Grace Dai)

Grace Dai was a Product Design Intern on my team at Zendesk last summer and worked our Sunshine product team. Her internship portfolio presentation was one of the most memorable I’ve listened to, so I sat down with her to learn more about how she prepared for the interviews.

Grace was so generous and actually walks us through in detail the presentation version of one of her portfolio projects.

Huge thanks to Grace for this interview!

If you want a UX job or internship, focus your energy on these 4 things | Product Design 2020

I remember when I was starting out and I felt so overwhelmed that I sometimes felt like I lost sight of what was important. I wish that someone told me this. Here are the 4 things that I would recommend focusing your energy on if you’re planning to apply for UX Product Design jobs this year. Remember, these aren’t the only things you should know, but it’s key to know this if you’re interviewing. UX fundamentals are a must, and these are the things that I would focus on once you’ve covered that 🙂
